There are massive price differences for Accredited GreenPower products between both retailers and products.

Switching to accredited GreenPower would significantly reduce the Greenhouse Gas emissions you’re responsible for.

GreenPower is now available to all Australian households.

GreenPower generally costs more than standard electricity, but what you’ll pay depends on the percentage of accredited GreenPower and the retailer you choose. We tell you how to choose a good deal.

The average household could pay over $400 a year extra for 100% GreenPower — roughly an additional 20% to 40% above government-regulated standard electricity rates — but using our guide to choose a cheaper retailer would cut that bill by half or even more (depending on your electricity consumption, where you live and which retailers are available).

Buying less than 100% GreenPower does less to help the environment but is obviously cheaper — under $100 a year for most people. Several companies offer 10% accredited GreenPower at no extra cost above regulated electricity rates.
Some deals aren’t as green as they seem. We tell you how to spot the difference.

In his recently published book, Greenhouse Solutions with Sustainable Energy, Australia’s top sustainable energy expert, Dr Mark Diesendorf, argues that science, technology and economics all say that coal and uranium should ultimately remain in the ground and that renewables can meet our energy demands.

Diesendorf argues that the only residual argument is about politics and political support for uranium and fossil fuel miners and coal-based power corporations. Let’s do what mainstream Australian media shy away from and examine Diesendorf’s assertion critically by examining the numbers and asking questions of the kind, ‘who says?’ ‘how many?’ and ‘how much?’

…..

Using data from the US Energy Information Administration we can calculate that ‘annual per capita fossil fuel-derived CO2 pollution’ in tonnes CO2 per person is 19.2 for Australia (40 if you include Australia’s coal exports), 19.7 for the US, 18.4 for Canada, 3.6 for China, 1.0 for India, 0.7 for Pakistan and 0.25 for Bangladesh. The world average is 4.3.

“But all of the things that have happened have been allowable under the current legislation and that’s the real worrying thing.

“The Migration Act compromises someone’s ability to get a fair trial. By branding someone a bad character, immediately you’re undermining the presumption of innocence.

“Of course, then the terror laws allow a whole range of things that allow in this case for really shonky evidence to deprive this person of his liberty.”

Dr Di Natale said Australia’s terror laws should be scrapped, adding the Greens were “a real chance to hold the balance of power in the Senate” in the upcoming federal election.
